Cool Roofs, Hot Roofs and Ice Dams

Hot Cold Roofing

The Anchorage roofing and Eagle River roofing contractors at Integrity Roofing & Windows have the expertise to install a hot or cool roofing system on your home. These solutions, relatively new to the roofing industry, help protect your home or business by reflecting sunlight, resisting cracking, and by being virtually waterproof.

Cool Roofing

A cool roof is actually an elastomeric coating that reflects 70% to 90% of the sun’s energy when newly installed. In order to comply with Energy Star® and Cool Roof Rating Council® standards, the minimum reflectivity needs to be at least 70%.

Conventional roofing materials have reflectivity of just 5% to 25%, meaning they absorb 75% to 95% of the sun’s energy. This absorbed energy is transferred to the building, increasing the temperature.

A cool roofing solution counteracts that absorption of the sun’s energy, resulting in a better temperature balance between the surface of your roof and your attic space. This helps to prevent the formation of dangerous ice dams, which can cause melting snow and ice to back up into your home.

Hot Roofing

A hot roofing solution is made of different levels of asphalt and coal tar with advanced adhesive technology. These roofs absorb sunlight in cooler climates, while resisting cracking from factors such as snow and ice. Hot roofs are designed to be durable and nearly weatherproof and are perfect for industrial buildings and other buildings in colder climates.
