Flat and Low Slope Roofs

Flat and Low Slope Roofing

In contrast to the typical “peaked” style of roof, a flat roof is horizontal or angled at such a low slope that it is nearly horizontal. Materials that cover flat roofs must allow water, ice and snow to run off freely, protecting your Alaska home from water damage.

Traditionally flat roofs use a tar and gravel based surface, which, as long as there is no pooling of water, is often sufficient to prevent penetration of the surface. However, tar and gravel surfaces tend to fail in colder climates such as Alaska’s, where ice dams and heavy snow pack can block the flow of water. Similarly, they tend to be sensitive to sagging of the roof reversing the subtle grading of the surface.

Integrity Roofing & Windows installs modern flat roofs that use a continuous membrane covering which can better resist water pooling. These membranes are applied as a continuous sheet, with advanced sealants and adhesives to allow for bonding multiple sheets and dealing with structures penetrating the roof surface.

A flat roof is a good choice for a home in a climate like Alaska’s. The heavy snow storms that our region can be hit with leave roofs very susceptible to water damage and ice dams. A modern flat roof Anchorage installed by Integrity Roofing & Windows will protect your home from the dangers of water damage and ice dams.
